Belt Welders

Belt Welders are used to weld together the ends of a stainless steel transfer belt. This belt is used to transport can lids in the beverage can industry.

Overview of Design Features:

Portable Cart
The shear, weld carriage, weld clamps, lower base, and welding equipment are all stored on a fabricated steel cart. This cart is portable and can be moved from press to press.

Lower Base Plate
The weld carriage and weld clamps are designed for mounting onto the lower base plate. The lower base plate is made from aluminum. This makes it light weight so it can be easily moved from cart to press and back again. The plate is Blanchard ground on both the top and bottom side.

Electrical Control
The electrical controls are all self-contained and machine mounted, ready to operate. The operator has access to a variable speed potentiometer, which is used to change the welding speed. There is also a simple one-button operation to initiate the weld start. When the adjustable rear proximity switch senses the torch has reached the back edge, it will automatically shut the arc off.

Shear - Optional
A manually operated, alligator shear, designed to cut the strip square. The upper and lower shear blades are reversible for long wear. The shear includes a manual stripper pad for clamping the strip prior to shearing. To assure a belt is cut properly, the shear will also include locating pins to register the belt over.

Locating Pins
Locating pins are provided to locate the proper alignment and fit up of the belt ends. The pins are manually inserted and removed.

Weld Carriage and Torch Assembly
A D.C. motor and variable speed drive accurately controls the travel speed of the welding torch. A threadless ball screw drives the torch. “V” groove wheels and track guide the torch carriage on the top and bottom. With this arrangement, the operator can position the torch freely over the front edge of the strip to be welded without the use of forward and reverse buttons. The weld carriage assembly is made of lightweight aluminum for operator ease of moving the carriage from the cart to the press and back again.

Weld Clamps
The entry and exit clamps are individual assemblies. The clamp pads are made from copper. Each pad contains two locating pins for proper alignment on the lower base plate. Once the belt is in place, the clamps are placed over the belt. Using hand knobs, the clamps are then tightened to the base plate, clamping the belt ends.

Weld Power Supply - TIG
A 175-amp A.C./D.C. weld power source is supplied to provide power for the TIG weld torch. The power supply includes an adjustable dial to change the weld current.
• Plasma welding equipment is optionally available.
• The Guild Belt Welder is CE compliant –Standard
