Guild International, Inc of Bedford Ohio has recently completed the installation and start up of a Supercoil Accumulator on a 25" diameter pipe mill at Shanghai Tianbao, in China. This Supercoil is designed to accumulate strip up to .760" thick (19mm) by 80" wide (2.0 meters). This Supercoil provides up to 1440 feet (440 meters) of storage to allow for the coil changeover on the entry end without stopping the mill. This Supercoil holds up to ONE MILLION pounds of the customer's material.
The Guild Supercoil was chosen due to its simple operation, rugged design and due to Guilds extensive experience supplying large Supercoils on large mills throughout the world. The Supercoil is the only large accumulator that takes advantage of the strips natural tendency to expand by feeding the strip into the center of the machine and then letting the strip expand down rollers to the outside diameter. This simple concept reduces stress on the strip and on the accumulator, thereby reducing noise and reducing maintenance. A very well organized program resulted in an on time start up of the pipe mill project.
