Another First From Guild International
10/27/05
Guild has recently commissioned two welders installed in a combination continuous rolling mill, annealing and pickling line for stainless steel. This, the first line of its kind in the world, processes a very wide range of strip thicknesses, from 0.6mm up to 6.0mm. The strip width is up to 1,350mm. A wide variety of grades of stainless steel are processed and reductions up to 70% are achieved in this line. Guild supplied one of their model QMM seam welders with three phase DC welding to make very high quality seam welds on strip from 0.6mm to 2.0mm thick that are reduced in the three stand rolling mill. This is a first time a seam welder has been applied for such a demanding application. A Guild model RCM Zipwelder was also supplied in the entry of this line to make MIG butt welds on strip from 1.2 up to 6.0mm thick. These MIG welds are also reduced up to 70%. Two MIG welding torches are used, even on 400 series stainless steel, to reduce the overall weld cycle time. Guild has extensive experience making rollable welds on stainless steel, silicon steel, copper alloys, and aluminum. Guild has supplied 7 other welders to this customer over the past 15 years for other continuous lines and excellent results have been realized with the prior welders
